I live just north of the Ox Hill. Your site is the best on this subject! Think how the course of history could be changed had the Confederates occupied Fairfax Courthous again and the crossroads at Germantown. Have you read Netherton, et al, Fairfax Virginia: A City Traveling Through Time? P 28-29 cites the letters of a Vermont volunteer, who, on 26 Dec 1982, returned to bury Union dead at the Battle of "Chantilly." Has this area been developed yet, and if not, can it be surveyed or saved? There are areas around Germantown (Jermantown) that are not yet developed. Are there any plans to survey these remaining lots? Also, I am doing research on the roads of Fairfax County in the mid 1860's or earlier. Maps and records are difficult to locate due to the fires and occupation at the Fairfax Courthouse. The Fairfax Planning Commission has recommended "Heritage Resouce Surveys" be completed in the Fox Mill/ Difficult Run areas prior to any building, but their recommendation seem to be ignored. Any evidence I can gather, and possibly enforce or expand the boundaries of their recommendation could be of help. Thanks.
