In reviewing
some of the material for this site, it may have solved a family mystery.
On my mother's side of the family, my great grandfather had a brother
who fought as part of Hooker's Division in the Seventh NJ Volunteers.
The service entry of my ggrandfather's brothed noted he was wounded near
Centreville on September 2, 1862! I now believe his wounding, which
resulted in his discharge from a US Army hospital in Washington DC on
November 12, 1862 and a shortened life, occurred during this very
battle.
Thank you for your
work of both tender devotion to those who gave their all for their
particular Causes and, as a Civil War reenactor, I join with you in
saluting them!
